Boston Tamil Cricket Club

Cricket in Boston Tamil Community

Cricket is a popular game in south Asian countries and Boston Tamils who are originally from Sri Lanka are not an exception. Many recall their past memories of playing cricket at their colleges in Sri Lanka while playing here during the weekends.

At the  initial stage weekend games during summer was informal as a recreation as well as a light exercise.

Formation of BTC and its Impact

Dr.Pathmadevan  who initiated the re-organization of cricket group was recognized as the co-ordinator for cricket by BTC in 2006 when it was formed. BTC made the weekend cricket play more formal with emails flying out every weekend to attract more players to the Sunday cricket games. Dr. Pathmadevan put up lot of energy to make Sunday a cricket day starting with around 10 players.

Present Status

Although we function independently we work hand in hand with BTC.  We have not only grown up in number but also in the quality of games moving from the recreational stage to competitive stage. We have an annually elected administrative committee lead by the cricket coordinator, which manages all team related matters.

Since we started playing tournaments in 2007, we have established our name as a strong hybrid between professionals and recreational players. We have won 3 tournament championships and 2 Runner-up titles.

We host an annual Boston-NJ cricket battle between the Tamil communities, which serves as a get-to-gather for both communities. Our Gold team have won  all five meeting with New Jersey.

Still  a Summer Sunday means Cricket in our community.
