VPS Tournament –2011

 

 

VPS is one of the biggest heavy tennis ball cricket tournament held in the Northeast USA. Thirty six teams participated in the tournament this year.  This was our first entry in this tournament.

 

In the first round we played the last year Runners-up, Cambridge Cricket Club. CCC batted first and scored 56 runs in the stipulated 12 overs.  Bawan claimed 2 wickets giving away 17 runs, while Nishan and Jathees claimed one off their own.

BTCC chased the target in 7.1 overs with the help of Tharshan’s lightening strike of unbeaten 29 runs off just 16 balls. Senthuran provided the anchor on the other end with an unbeaten 13.

 

Based on the net run rate we were ranked #1 in the division and faced the #4 seed Northeastern in the  divisional semifinals. Northeastern won the toss and elected to bat and put up a reasonable target of 69 runs on the board. Jatheesan came up strong with bowling performance capturing 5 wickets for 11 runs and Nishan got 2 wickets for 19 runs. Tharshan was the shining star again in batting scored 24 runs which had hat-trick of sixes. Sugu (16) and Bawan (11) showed their responsibility by staying at crease until reaching the target in 6.3 overs.

 

After the stunning performance in the first and second rounds BTCC met the Rhode Island Challengers in the divisional finals. BTCC struggled with batting and manage to put up 59 runs on the board in the given 12 overs. Tharshan (17) and Gajan (10) were the only to get on double digits. Despite of stingy bowling performance RI challengers emerged the Divisional champions.
